Hyperspectral

Fireflies Constellation

The Fireflies are currently the worlds highest-resolution commercial-grade hyperspectral satellites with a 5 metre resolution. Six of the fireflies are currently in orbit as part of Phase 1 with further satellites for this constellation in development.

New Hyperspectral Satellite Technology for Enhanced Global Earth Observation

About the Firefly Hyperspectral Imaging Constellation

Firefly satellites employ new hyperspectral sensors capable of capturing over 135 spectral bands, enabling a broader range of applications and more detailed environmental insights than previous satellites. This advanced technology supports improved monitoring for environmental management, mineral exploration, natural resource mapping, and agriculture, with image resolution six times sharper than the standard 30 metre hyperspectral satellites.

Designed to provide frequent revisits every 24 hours, the Firefly constellation ensures timely and accurate hyperspectral data delivery. When fully deployed, the constellation is expected to achieve daily global landmass coverage, supporting comprehensive Earth observation worldwide.

Pixxel successfully launched three Firefly satellites aboard the SpaceX NAOS Falcon 9 mission on August 27, 2025 (AEST), completing the first phase of its commercial constellation and moving closer to building a planetary health monitoring system.

These satellites join the first three Fireflies that successfully launched on SpaceX’s Transporter-12 mission on January 14, 2025. Built for depth, frequency, and fidelity, the constellation has been steadily monitoring Earth, delivering rich spectral insights across environmental and industrial indicators.
